I agree as long as the gift is allowed to be traded in immediately if necessary.

That’s where my suggestion came in. An Accord is a good car, but I couldn’t just tell my parents that I wanted to sell it immediately and buy something else.
Thankfully, it was a dream, and even more thankfully, when I told my dad about it, he laughed.

You must be a terrible person to buy gifts for.

I probably would too. Maybe take off the XXX logos. Drive it to church every Sunday. See how long before I’m asked to not come back.

Can’t buy a car for a car guy.

I’m a car guy and you can buy me any car. You, my friend, are a car snob .

I guess I should have spent more time reading. Totally different story if it was a gift from my parents. I would be happy with whatever they gave me. However my parents are also both car enthusiasts, so I would not be concerned anyway.

especially when my five kids pile out of the back

I’d be happy to get them as a gift, but only if I could convert to cash money.

Just like any other gift.

Which is why my immediate family finally stopped the charade (the youngest, my brother, is 26 now) and said that if you want something, we will write you a check.
It’s really nice not to have to worry about shopping and buying stuff that we likely won’t use more than about twice.

That’s really sad.

I would appreciate any gift , especially if it was a car! However, if it’s something that I can’t/won’t use, then I would trade it just like the ugly rugby shirts that my Aunt gets for me every year.
I wouldn’t be a dick about it, but I don’t think I’m the only car enthusiast who is really particular about what he/she wants when selecting a car.

What’s sad about it? I’d rather spend the time attending and participating in Mass with my family than giving gifts.
It’s very freeing when you don’t have some expectation to participate. And isn’t that what a gift is: presenting someone with something without any obligation?

I love giving gifts. My siblings and I decided not to give gifts to each other a long time ago, but we’ve all got children to give gifts to.

Ok, you got me. I wouldn’t want a car that is on fire.

If I had kids of my own or nieces/nephews who were young, I would get them gifts.
But since I don’t have kids or nieces/nephews, I don’t buy gifts.

This is what’s sad about it.

I’m not married, but even if I was, it would take a lot of thought for my husband and I to adopt, because I don’t want to fail at providing what a child needs in order to be raised.
